A Fond Farewell...
On Wednesday, May 23rd we had to say goodbye to Salt Lake City and return to our regular lives. Nevertheless, the adventures were not completely over. Our flight plan home was a little different than on the way there. We would go from Salt Lake City to Chicago, Chicago to Newark, and then take the bus from Newark to Allentown. All of us were happy to be returning, but still sad to leave the city behind that had offered us so much in the past few days. Unfortunately our flight from Chicago to Newark was delayed because the airplane ran out of space for carry-on luggage and they had to check many peoples' bags. Furthermore, it was particularly tricky for us because they were not sure if it was possible to check our luggage directly to Allentown because we were taking the bus. Eventually the airline got it all figured out and we were ready for take off. However, when we landed we were almost late for our bus and they told us that we would not receive our checked luggage because the connections were too close. They had guaranteed us that we would receive our luggage in Allentown, but this was obviously not true. To complicate the situation even more some of the members of our group had left their car keys in their carry-on belongings that the airline took. Therefore, they would have had no way to get home or move their cars from the airport parking. This caused some slight hysteria, but Dr. Moorman-Stahlman came to save the day. She had what I will describe as a "heated debate" with the bus driver and flight attendants and we finally received all our luggage. She said later in the day that, "A mother-bear has to protect her cubs."
After a long day we finally arrived in Allentown. Many people still had a long drive home and immediately hit the road. However, a few of us were still not ready for this experience to be over so we decided to go out for one last meal at a local Red Robin. All good things come to an end, as did our trip to Utah. It was filled with incredible experiences, from the people we met and the places we went to gigantic pipe organs and beyond. Every person left this trip filled with memories that will certainly last a life time.
